Loket

Urban monument zone

During the reign of Václav I (Wenceslaus I), the town formed the outer ward of a formidable royal castle, of the same name, with a Romanesque rotunda. The castle gained importance primarily after 1230, when the seat of the regional authority was transferred there from Sedlec. As a result, the town of Loket flourished as well because later on the castle, together with the town, formed a single fortified unit.
