What can you expect from the new guides?

 Tunnel No. 1 in Jáchymov: A Story of Uranium and Lack of Freedom

Step into these authentic 1950s spaces, which were shaped by the suffering of political prisoners at the height of the Cold War. The audio guide will take you through a total of 12 stops, during which you will discover:

Mementos of Suffering: The story of the statue of a Jáchymov miner by the imprisoned sculptor Jaroslav Šlezinger.

Secrets of the Underground: The massive bars of the “katra,” a working mine railway with the legendary “Pullman” prison car, and the raw face of the adit.

Fragments of Human Destinies: An exhibition of personal items found among prisoners at the Svornost camp.

Film Locations: Sites featured in the TV crime series Rapl.

The Path to the Light: The final descent down the dreaded “Mauthausen Stairs.”

The Historic Jeroným Tin Mine: The Kingdom of Medieval Miners

Step back five whole centuries in time at this unique National Cultural Monument. A new guide will welcome you at the modern Visitor Center and take you on a journey through time to an era when the Slavkov Forest was a renowned European center of tin mining. You’ll discover:

The ingenuity of our ancestors: How medieval miners dug tunnels through hard rock by hand, using only a pickaxe and a hammer.

Breathtaking chambers: Monumental underground spaces that have been preserved in almost their original form.

The power of fire: The method of using fire to break up massive rock, employed by miners of old.

How do you do it? It's quick and easy!

1. Download the app: Search for the Cabinet of Wonders app in your mobile app store (Google Play / App Store). Or scan one of the QR codes for our audio guides. If you don’t have the Cabinet of Wonders app, you’ll be automatically redirected to the app store. 

2. Choose a route: In the app, select the Sokolov Museum and choose Adit No. 1 Jáchymov or the Jeroným Mine.

3. Enjoy the experience: Start the audio guide on-site or download the content to your phone in advance for offline listening underground. Due to poor signal reception underground, we recommend downloading in advance for offline listening. 

4. Choose a language: The audio guide is available in Czech, German, and English. Simply select your preferred language in the app settings (gear icon).
