It is owned by the state and is open to the public.

The castle was founded at the turn of the thirteenth and fourteenth centuries by members of the Hroznatov family and became the ancestral castle of the lords of Gutštejn. It no longer met their requirements and from the fifteenth century the owners preferred other residences. However, Gutštejn was maintained until the middle of the sixteenth century, when the castle, after being annexed to the Bezdružice estate, lost its residential function and began to fall into disrepair. It was most likely definitively abandoned during the Thirty Years' War.
