The memorial dedicated to people who died between 1948 and 1989 at the border while trying to emigrate from the then Czechoslovakia is located near the exit to the Svatý Kříž border crossing on the so-called signal road along the border, i.e. at the place where the tragedies occurred. (And allegedly several victims lost their lives in the immediate vicinity.)The memorial was unveiled on June 27, the Day of Remembrance of Victims of the Communist Regime, which is the anniversary of Milada Horáková. The memorial was built by the city of Cheb. The initiator was the Cheb historian and at the time the Cheb councilor Václav Jiřík. The monument in the form of a metal sculpture is the work of academic sculptor Antonín Kašpar. Its walls contain 82 names of victims who died a violent death while crossing the green border between 1948 and 1989 in the territory of today's Karlovy Vary Region.
