Úterý Town
The name of the town is derived from the name of the day on which the market was held. The German variant Neumarkt, as well as the Latin Novum forum, mean new market. The prosperity of the newly elevated town was also benefited by the existence of a mining settlement near the nearby gold mines near Křivce. The open-pit mines there are archaeologically documented for the late 13th and 14th centuries. The miners had to actively increase the turnover of the weekly Tuesday market for food. And, by the way, the origin of the reminiscence legend about the founding of Úterý near the gold mines can probably be found here. The origin of the village of Úterý is associated with a legend according to which the settlement was founded by German miners. Legend has it that one of the miners got lost in the forests around today's Úterý and, tired of wandering, fell asleep. He had a dream that he would find a large gold deposit. When he woke up, he saw a raven holding a gold ring in its beak. The miner watched where the raven would drop the ring. At that spot, the miner actually found gold. The symbol for Tuesday is also derived from this legend, which depicts a walking raven with a gold ring in its beak in a golden field, with antlers above it.
