Bečov Castle was built on a granite rock in the distinctive valley of the Teplá River at its confluence with the Bečovský stream. The granite in Bečov is part of the extensive Karlovy Vary granite massif. The first written mention of the castle dates back to 1394.
Since 1813, the castle and chateau belonged to the Beafort-Spontini, who confiscated it after 1945. Bečov Castle is exceptional for its preservation of its original medieval appearance. A reliquary of St. Maurus was discovered under the floor of the castle chapel in 1985. In the Middle Ages, Bečov Castle had a guard and customs function. An important factor in the development of Bečov in the 13th-16th centuries was ore mining in the central part of the Slavkov Forest. Bečov nad Teplou is an ideal starting point for trips to the Slavkov Forest. The symbol of mining traditions can also be found in the town emblem. A two-tailed lion holds a flail on a hatchet.
