Bílý Halštrov

To the spring of the German Vltava

About one kilometer from the village of Výhledy, the river Bílý Halštrov (Weisse Elster) originates. The Bílý Halštrov is also sometimes nicknamed the German Vltava. Although its flow in the Czech Republic is only 11.1 kilometers long, its total length is 257 kilometers. In 1898, the spring  of the Bílý Halštrov was cleaned and its surroundings were improved. The Vogtland Mountaineering Association built a monument above the spring. The coat of arms on it tells us that the land for the spring was donated by Friedrich Wilhelm Edler from Helmfeld.

The spring of Bílé Halštrov

Since ancient times, the Halštrov Water Wisp has been a good spirit. She rarely appeared to people, she was always friendly to the poor brush and forest fruit pickers, but she is said to have played many a mischievous trick on the coal miners. One very dry summer, Hädler's Mill had problems with water. A dry mill - that's just bad luck. The miller thought that the Halštrov Fairy could help him. So he sent an apprentice to the well where she lived. It was this one, later an apprentice miller, who told the story with gusto. He then brought a large piece of bread and a milk jug full of milk to the Halštrov well. And lo and behold! The miller's pond filled with water by morning, and it remained the same throughout the summer and into autumn.
