Cheb

Historic city of the Bohemian West

Cheb is located in the Karlovy Vary region, 5 km from the German border on the Ohře River. The first written mention dates back to 1061. Under the rule of the Štaufs, Cheb Castle was built in the early Gothic period and, among other things, embroidery and goldsmith work called the Cheb Antependium was created.

In the late Gothic period, the construction of the hall-shaped three-nave basilica of St. Nicholas and Elizabeth was completed, and many sculptural, painting and goldsmith works were created. The greatest sights include Cheb Castle, the only Palatinate in the Czech Republic, the three-nave church of St. Nicholas and Elizabeth and the picturesque ensemble of shopkeepers' houses, the famous Cheb špalíček.
