Františkovy Lázně

Health, nature and history

Františkovy Lázně is located in the Karlovy Vary region, about 6 km from Cheb. The city was founded in 1793 by Emperor Francis I. The founder of the spa operation of the first peat baths in the world is considered to be the doctor Bernhard Adler (1753-1810) from Cheb.

More than twenty Františkovy Lázně springs of the cold sulfuric-carbonic acid nature used since the Middle Ages and the captured carbon dioxide are behind the creation and are also the basis of the fame of the local spa. Mineral waters are used medicinally for drinking cures and baths. The city is rich in historical monuments, monuments and nature, which penetrates into the very heart of the city through parks. A green belt of parks surrounds the city. The city's favorite symbol is the statue of Francis. The king of poets, Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, also honored the spa with his visit.
