Sokolov is a classicist castle in the center of the city of the same name in the Karlovy Vary Region. The first manor house was founded on its site in the second half of the 13th century. The preserved form was influenced by late Gothic and especially Baroque reconstruction. The first written mention of Sokolov dates back to 1279. The first manor house - a circular fortress, the foundations of which were discovered during archaeological research - also dates back to this time.
Prehistoric exhibition in the Sokolov Museum
Until 1945, the Nostic family owned the castle. And since 1960, the Museum of Mining Sokolov has operated here. Since 2023, the Karlovy Vary Region has been the founder of the museum. The exhibitions have been expanded. In 2019, the castle cellars with an exhibition of the Sokolov treasure, geology and archaeology were also opened.
